Postback (S2S tracking)
A postback is a server-to-server call that reports a conversion to the tracking platform, using the click ID, without cookies or browser scripts.
A postback is a request one server sends to another to report a conversion. In affiliate marketing, the advertiser's server calls the network's postback URL with the click ID of the visitor who converted. That's why it's also called server-to-server (S2S) tracking.
Why it's the most reliable method
Nothing runs in the visitor's browser, so ad blockers, cookie restrictions and private browsing don't get in the way. It's the standard method for networks and affiliates who buy traffic.
Two directions
- Advertiser → network: the advertiser reports the conversion.
- Network → affiliate: the network passes it on to the affiliate's own tracker or ad platform.
