Affiliate program terms: what to include (checklist)

What to write in your affiliate program's terms: allowed traffic, commissions, payouts, refunds, brand use and ending the partnership. A checklist.

Updated on 7 Nov 2026

The terms tell partners what they can do and what they get. Clear rules avoid arguments and give you grounds to reject sales that break them. This list is a starting point; it is not legal advice.

Commissions

  • What counts as a conversion (sale, sign-up, lead) and what it's worth.
  • The attribution window: how many days after the click a sale still counts.
  • Who gets the sale when more than one affiliate is involved (usually the last click).

Traffic

  • Allowed and forbidden sources: ads on your brand name, unsolicited email, incentivized traffic, coupon sites.
  • Accepted countries.
  • Whether they can use your brand in domain names, ads or profiles.

Approval and refunds

  • How long a conversion stays pending before approval.
  • What happens on a refund, cancellation or chargeback: the commission is taken back.
  • Which sales you can reject and why (fraud, forbidden traffic, duplicates).

Payouts

  • Minimum to request a payout, dates and methods.
  • Who pays fees and in which currency.
  • Billing and tax details the partner must provide.

Brand and messaging

  • Which creatives they can use and whether they can change them.
  • What they can't promise (prices, guarantees, results).
  • Disclosing the affiliate relationship, as each country's law requires.

Ending the partnership

How each side can end it and what happens to pending commissions.

In RastroAff

Traffic rules go in each offer's description; the attribution window, countries and caps go in the offer's fields. Sales that break the rules are rejected with a rejection reason the affiliate sees. Accepting the terms can be a required question on the sign-up form.
