Affiliate program for online shops: commissions, coupons and returns
How to run an affiliate program for an online shop, Shopify and WooCommerce included: commission per sale, coupons for creators and what to do about returns.
Updated on 7 Nov 2026
In an online shop, affiliates bring buyers through reviews, comparisons, videos and discount codes. The program pays a share of every sale they bring.
The commission
The most common is a percentage of the sale, because baskets have different values. Calculate it on the amount without shipping or taxes, and check that the margin on discounted products can take the commission. See how much to pay affiliates.
Coupons for creators
Many creators would rather say "use code ANA10" than share a link. Each code is tied to one affiliate, and the sale is theirs even if the buyer never clicks a link. Followers get a discount, the creator gets the commission.
Returns and cancellations
Approve commissions only after the return period. If the order is refunded, the conversion is reversed and the amount comes off the affiliate's balance, even if it was already approved.
Shopify and WooCommerce without coding
No app or plugin needed: the shop tells RastroAff about each paid, cancelled or refunded order through the webhooks it already has. Only orders that came from an affiliate count, by click ID or coupon. The sale amount is the subtotal after discounts, without shipping or taxes. WooCommerce needs version 8.5 or later.
Good to know
- Seasonality: tell affiliates about promotions in advance.
- Excluded products: say on the offer which ones earn no commission.
- Watch partners whose sales are almost all returned; see fraud detection.
In RastroAff
In the advertiser dashboard, under Integration, pick Shopify or WooCommerce store and copy the URL into the shop's webhooks. The offer's destination URL must carry {click_id}. See create an offer.
